We all have the same 24 hours in a day. The excuse that you don’t have time is a lie and a false sense of security.

People like to believe they are much busier than they actually are and they love the excuse that they just don’t have time for the things that are truly important in their life but if we all have the same 24 hours in a day then how does one have more time than another or less time than another?

We make time for what’s important even if it’s not conducive to us reaching our goals. Time management is one of the deciding factors that separates us as successful people, those who can manage their time well are often very successful in reaching their goals. While those who do not manage time well usually have a much harder time getting to their goals.

I’m going to lay out a few ideas on how you can better manage your time so that you can see progress in the areas of your life that matter most to you.

  1. Clearly define your goals.

Having ambiguous goals can leave you spinning your wheels in attempt to conquer them because of the lack of clear direction. A good system to use is the S.M.A.R.T. goals system.

  • S-Specific
  • M-Measurable
  • A-Attainable
  • R-Relevant
  • T-Time Based
  1. Support your goals.
  2. Do things that actually support your short term and long term goals. After having a clear definition of them, ask yourself if what you’re doing is actually helping you to get closer to accomplishing them. We often have good intentions by our actions but we find ourselves wasting time in our efforts.

  3. Look up.
  4. Don’t get so distracted that you end up forgetting what’s ahead of you. Sometimes we have deadlines to meet and getting too deep into something can set us back. From there we have missed an opportunity that may not come back around 4 sometime or ever. Be a planner.

  5. Decentralize your command.
  6. Being a one-man wrecking Crew feels good to re down with some but can set us back a lot because there’s just not enough hands and enough hours to do everything in a day. Let others support you and delegate to them what you need support with.

  7. Take the opposite approach of Nike and don’t just do it.
  8. Tell people no. In the modern world where we have so many things competing for our attention it’s easy to get distracted and also let others pull us away from the things that matter to us and accomplishing our goals. Some projects aren’t worth our time.

  9. Understand when you’re working on something and when you’re working on something.
  10. working in something is usually the day-to-day operations that keep your project afloat and moving forward. While working on something memes doing tops that support the bigger picture and overall the project or system.

  11. Look in the mirror.
  12. Take time to reflect how far you’ve come and if something is holding you back, be honest about what you’re doing wrong instead of looking to blame someone else.

  13. Walk away.
  14. Give yourself time to relax and enjoy life. Understand somethings take time and burning the candle from both ends can produce sloppy work and usually still don’t get you far enough ahead to justify all the hours you’ve sacrificed on other enjoyable tasks.
